Mount Shelt Munnar

I made a tour plan to Munnar on the 3rd and 4th of May 2015 with my wife and kid. With ample of hotel/stay options available, I was confused which one to Choose. I reevaluated my requirement standards for the stay. I wanted a stay place for only for a night, my plan was to cover some places on the way to Munnar (Cochin route), reach the hotel around afternoon fresh up and start again to see places very near to the city/hotel. So our stay at the hotel was only for the night. Hence, I deviated from all fancy, exaggerated, expensive (for my requirement) hotels and started to concentrate on "Budget Hotels". Even though, choice was budget I was not willing to negotiate on cleanliness or comfort of stay place. Sahari Albarad came up on the list. Prime requirement of hotel to be in city center was satisfied (as they say), however the reviews did not make a good Impression. I spent good amount of time juggling around various option. Finally I decided to go with Sahari Albarad. On the way to our destination, I ringed up the hotel to keep them posted that I am arriving in couple of hours. We arrived at around 2 PM, Good gesture, smiling faced staff welcomed, room 103 was given. The room was well organised (not jazzy things around, as expected), my family felt okay (nothing to complain). The room had, a double cot with mattress, a T V with DishTV DTH connection, a cupboard, bathroom, makeup table(mirror) but "No Fan", I was surprised to see no fan. We were in a hurry to fresh up and start again, so did not worry too much, the moment Deo sprays went on, the room covered with smell of Deo's and started feel like suffocating, well this is where I missed the Fan. On the contrary the weather is cold then putting on fan may be bad idea but air???.. I had to open the window to take some fresh air. We left the hotel around 3 (the staff were helpful by giving the places to see near Munnar leaflet. We returned to hotel around 7 in the night, city center hotel helped us to step out for dinner by walk, all the restaurants were nearby. After dinner, returned to hotel, the climate was cold (for me), then I gave up idea of asking for a fan. Cold night, comfort bed, DTH to watch any language channels. Next day morning, Hot water was ready, no hassle encountered, cold weather, hot water bath felt great. I asked about breakfast, the staff directed us to a nearby restaurant(Surya Soma) and asked to have breakfast from there (no need to pay money)????? I was surprised, I asked myself why. Did not as hotel staff why, we headed to the restaurant. Well it worked out good for us as the restaurant for abvious reasons had wide variety of breakfast items unlike standard 3 or 4 varieties served in B/B CP hotels or stay place. I told the restaurant guys we are coming from Sahari Albarad, no questions asked, provided with menu to order whatever we want, we had descent breakfast, Returned to hotel, packed things up and left the hotel around 11. The staff greeted with smile, I mentioned "It was nice staying here". Room service guys speak hindi, reception staff spoke English, so, being non Malayalee isn't going to be a problem. I have to mention, if you are a vegetarian, there are few "Pure vegetarian restaurants", they are usually crowded during dinner time. North/South Indian thali meals available. All the very best if you are planning for a trip to Munnar.

The best thing about the hotel is its location - at the central point of Munnar. All the site seeing places are in the four directions from this area. This area has all the good chocolate shops, Tea outlets, spices shops et al with varied rates as per your preferences. The service was very good. Whatever you ask is available in hand. Hotel has its own restaurant or there are also ample restaurants in and around the place. Bike, scooty and car rentals are also arranged by them if necessary and they also guided us about the routes. The bathroom water was pretty chilled. No geyser in bathroom, but has a tap for hot water. No fan(not that you need :P)

Very conveniently located. Within walking distance from munnar Bus station( less than 500 mtrs) . Nice and clean room. Very friendly and professional staffs. Special mentions to Abhishek (front office). A true professional and a great human being. The hospitality industry needs more people like him. Keep up the good work brother. My stay at albarad hotel was very comfortable . Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, they accommodated me even though i was 5 hours early than the check in time,that to without any hassle. All the services and breakfast provided by hotel was top notch.
