On all AirAsia India domestic flights checked baggage is allowed as long its dimensions are within 81 cm (H) x 119 cm (W) x 119 cm (D) and 40 kgs in weight. The rate slab for pre-booked (online) checked baggage starts from Rs. 199 for upto 15 kgs of weight and it goes all the way upto Rs. 1999 for 40 kgs of pre-booked checked baggage. If baggage is checked at airport, the minimum weight of 15 kgs is charged at Rs. 300 per passenger and excess baggage is charged at Rs. 250 per kg of weight. AirAsia baggage policy is very flexible and customer focused. It only charges excess baggage fee from above 15 kgs for domestic flights and above 20 kgs for its international flights. It also charges a separate fee for carrying any sports equipment by passengers on all its flights.

AirAsia Airline was formed in the year 1993. However, it started its services on 18th November, 1996. The airline was founded by DRB-Gicom, a government corporation. On December 2nd, 2001, the badly-indebted AirAsia was purchased by Tune Air Sdn Bhd for a total amount of one Ringgit. After a remarkable profit in the year 2002, the airline launched new routes from its hub in Kuala Lumpur International Airport at an extremelyaggressive rate. In 2003, it launched another hub at Senai International Airport, Johor Bahru near Singapore and started its first international flight to Bangkok. In June, 2004, it started flights to Macau and in April, 2005 started flights to Philippines (Manila) and Mainland China (Xiamen). the year 2005 marked the beginning of flights to Cambodia and Vietnam, , Myanmar and Brunei.
