About Alaska Airlines The seventh largest airline in the world, Alaska Airline has its headquarters at Sea Tac, Washington.

Formerly known as McGee Airways until 1932, the airline started its first operational airline in 1944.

At present it has flights to 100 destinations across countries like United States, Canada, Mexico and four Hawaiian islands.

The airline does not have alliance with any other airline, but has codeshare agreement between some members of OneWorld like British Airways, LAN Airlines and American Airlines. The airline also has codesharing with SkyTeam members like Air France, Korean Air and Delta Air Lines.

Checked Baggage: The maximum weight for any piece of checked baggage can be 50 pounds with a linear dimension of 62 inches.

Hand Baggage:

All passengers boarding a flight through Alaska Airlines can carry one piece of baggage. The maximum size of any luggage can be 10 x 17 x 24 inches. These would be measured in height x width x length.

Passengers may also carry one piece of personal item like purse, briefcase or laptop computer.

In addition to this all passengers should know that acceptance to carry baggage would depend upon the space available on the aircraft.

It should be noted that all passengers may use the miles plan of their credit card to vary the checked baggage for their flight and also claim discount.

Alaska Airlines has a fleet of 116 Boeing aircraft, with an average age of 7.5 years. The aircrafts include: Boeing 737-400 (24), Boeing 737-700 (19), Boeing 737-800 (55), Boeing 737-900 (12), Boeing 737-400C (5) and Boeing 737-400 (1). The airline took delivery of 10 737-800s in 2009. The airline also has firm commitments for 15 aircraft and options for 40 in 2010 and beyond.

Alaska Airlines, Inc., an Alaska corporation was founded in 1932. Till about 1942, the airline was known as 'Alaska Star Airlines'. It got its current name - Alaska Airlines - in the year 1944. In 1985, Alaska Air Group was formed as a holding company for Alaska Airlines. Alaska Air Group acquired Horizon Air in 1986 and in the year 1987, Jet America Airlines was merged into Alaska Airlines.
