About Jet Airways

Probably one of India’s most well known private domestic airlines, Jet Airways started out its domestic operations on 5th May 1993 under the leadership of Naresh Goyal. With an initial fleet comprising of 4 leased Boeing 737 aeroplanes, Jetairways soon expanded to include international operations with its maiden international flight from Chennai to Colombo. JetAirways has come a long way from its initial days of operating with 4 leased aircraft and now boasts of a large operating fleet. JetAirways now connects close to 76 destinations which include 52 domestic destinations as well as 24 international locations.


With Jet Airlines moving from strength to strength, it announced a takeover attempt to buyout Air Sahara with an offer of US$500 million. However, the deal didn’t go through and later on, a second attempt was made on 12 April 2007 where JetAirways successfully bought Air Sahara and rechristened it Jetlite airlines. It became the low cost arm of Jet Airlines and catered to the value segment of the air passengers.


Similar to Jetlite, Jet Konnect is another low cost arm of Jet Airways which also caters to the low cost segment. It’s essentially a no frills version of the parent Jet Airways that gives passengers low fares without compromising on service. Jet Konnect came into existence after Jetlite ( erstwhile Air Sahara) and differs with Jetlite by offering a premiere service that adds some value in terms of in-flight reading material , welcome drink and hot meals on board.


Jet Airways operates 385 flights on a daily basis to 65 destinations where domestic flights accounts for 44 including all the major cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Goa, Jaipur, Kolkata and other key cities. International Flights accounts for 21 destinations including New York, London, Toronto, Hong Kong, Singapore and other key cities across 17 countries in Asia, Europe and North America and from April 14th, 2010 it has also started flying to South Africa, with daily flights to Johannesburg.

JetAirways has made recent changes to its baggage policy to adhere to new guidelines. It now allows cabin baggage of an overall dimension of 115 cms with weight not exceeding 7 kgs. For JetPrivilege customers 10 kgs including 1 laptop are allowed as cabin luggage on all domestic flights. Gels, Alcohol, Liquids, Creams and sharp items are not allowed in any cabin luggage. Jet Airways allows 15 kgs free checked-in luggage per passenger per flight. Any excess luggage is charged at Rs. 250/ kg. Jet Airways has a flexible baggage allowance for JetPrivilege Platinum, Gold and Silver members and they are allowed to carry 20 kgs of luggage instead of the earlier 30 kgs if the member is a co-brand credit card holder. Jet Airways Inflight Services

The Jet Airways fleet consists of 92 aircrafts. The technology advanced flights include Airbus A330 - 200 (12), ATR 72 - 500 (14), Boeing 737 - 400 (13), Boeing 737 - 700 (13), Boeing 737 - 800 (41), Boeing 737 - 900 (02) and Boeing 777 - 300 ER (10). A cumulative of 43 aircrafts are under order at present.

Jet Airways History

With a meagre fleet of four Boeing 373 - 300 aircrafts, Jet Airways began its domestic airline operations on 5th May, 1993. Naresh Goyal, the owner and Chairman of Jet Airways as a full-service scheduled airline to compete with government owned Indian Airlines. In 1995, Jet Airways received its scheduled airline status and started flying internationally to Colombo, thus emerging as an international carrier. In May 2009, Jet Airways launched another low cost airline Jet Konnect, which used spare aircrafts from Jet Airway's routes that were discontinued due to low passenger load factors. The recession hit Jet Airways badly and it laid off around 1900 staff members. Later however, they were recruited back. But Jet Airways had to discontinue many of its international bound flights, sell a brand new yet-to-be-delivered Boeing 777-300ER and had to defer all new aircraft deliveries by at least two years.

About Mysore

Mysore is grandeur in the pages of Indian history.
The city crisscrosses Indian history chapters in the beginning of the 16th century when the Mughals started to ensnare parts of north India. Though history of Mysore dates back to the 13th century but it was during the reign of the Wodeyar dynasty that the Mahishuru Fort was constructed.
