Pros: 1. Right at the backwaters (Photo attached) 2. Offers Boating in Backwaters (it is expensive, but, if you are in Poovar for vacation, most probably this is what you are here for and wouldn’t avoid) - Jobin was late and I missed seeing the sunrise view because of that. Otherwise, place is very mystical. 3. Very very friendly and cooperative staff. I had Jobin (care taker) and Kumar (chef and guard). They are very comforting and will make you feel at ease. I was traveling solo and this is most essential and the reason I continued to stay there. THIS IS THE BIGGEST PLUS POINT OF THE HOME STAY. Jobin went out of his way to ensure I got commutation out of the homestay area. He even dropped me on his bike to that mode of commute. 4. Great sunset view from the homestay. (Photo attached) Cons: 1. Same breakfast - Dosa, Chutney, Papad - everyday (Photo attached) 2. Taste of Coffee and Tea is below average and they charged me for it. Ouch! Sometimes, even request for the chargeable coffee is denied which was awkward. 3. Room was very shady (Photo attached). Old bedsheets (Photo attached). Towels with blood stains (Photo attached). Broken fixtures. No regulator in fan (Photo attached) 4. Toilet was very shady (Photo attached). I avoided taking a shower till I really had to and had no escape. 5. All they provide is one soap. You must carry everything else. 6. Chargers are very old style. I had to use a converter. Thankfully I was carrying one. 7. There were rats in the garden area (near eating table) 8. Lots of crows everywhere when you try to eat on that table eyeing on your plate. Scary eating experience. 9. No commutation up to atleast 2 kms. No Uber. Taxis and auto rickshaw OVER CHARGE. 10. The restaurant providing lunch and dinner serves very average tasting food. As it is not cooked in the homestay, it is not fair to comment on the quality/hygiene. However, the packaging is shabby and messy. I was recommended to eat Prawn Biryani - rice was undercooked and barely 4 prawns in the dish. Conclusion: Unless you are running really tight on budget and are willing to compromise on standard of living (please check photos for the real images and decide if it is OK for you), I would recommend skipping this homestay.

We stayed here overnight and it was a pleasant stay. This resort is like a home with only one floor and a terrace. There is only one man taking care of the place. He was friendly and helpful. There was no room service, you need to call the guy using your phone if you want something. The rooms were big, spacious and clean. The location is very beautiful but a bit confusing and difficult to find at night. For dinner DO NOT GO TO "ARABIAN NIGHTS" which is on the main road, we had a horrible experience there. The breakfast that was provided by resort was delicious and home made. They also provided boat service to go to golden beach and the mangrove backwaters for just ... Rupees. Go for the boat ride early morning just before sunrise for best experience. Overall if you have a small budget and you are looking for a good place in Poovar with exotic natural view. This resort should take care of your expectations.

Those who want to experience the beautiful Kerala backwaters, Island View Resort is the right choice. The best thing about this resort is that it's situated next to the backwaters. You get an amazing view from the resort. The staff cares for you like a family. They will plan your complete trip including the outstanding boating experience, Ayurveda massage, spices shopping, watching birds & many more. It's a value for money resort. It's very clean & there is no issue of mosquitoes at all. We have been there during the hottest season but still the experience was levelheaded for us. All thanks to the staff support - Rajesh & team : Great job. We are a family now :)

Fabulous place. Price might be a little higher but its cheap among the hotels out there. Food was good which will be prepared in the small kitchen they have. And boating in backwaters was good with discounted price for people who stay here. In a nut shell, It ain't a luxurious place but its an happy place to stay which is because it is right next to backwaters. Thanks Rajesh

Bad experience. AC is not working continuously every 1 hour it will turn off automatically. I booked 3 room at a time everyone had same issue. And they didn't provide blankets I asked for blanket up to 12 PM they didn't gave blankets and lots of ant inside the room. Bed also very small. Average food. But staffs were very polite. I didn't recommend for family👎🏻

it was a good experience. basic amenities like blankets were not provided. TV is very small. but service is very good. they give good discount on backwaters ride if you stay at their premises. food from nearby hotel Annapurna with which they have a tie up is very very tasty. best part of stay was food.

Its a very small but good property for budget travelers. I stayed with my wife and son for one night in May 2017. Mr. Rajesh from hotel was very cordial and helping. He made our stay comfortable with a marvelous backwater trip. The only problem is you don't have much food options..

Very nice ambiance with nice people for service. Taking a boat ride is worth the value. Food provided in the breakfast is awesome. Due to schedules if you are not able to take the breakfast they are giving dinner to recover the same.
